1. What is the difference between ice cream and artisan gelato?
Ice cream is usually made in large batches and then frozen for long periods of time. Artisan gelato on the other hand, is made in small batches. At MokkiLato, that means your gelato is made fresh daily! Gelato has a creamier, denser texture than ice cream because it contains way less than half the amount of air than that of ice cream. It also has less fat than regular ice cream (0%-5% versus 7%-18% for ice cream), making it healthier for you.
2. Why is your gelato more expensive than regular ice cream?
MokkiLato values quality over quantity. Our artisan gelato is produced fresh daily in small batches. Unlike ice cream, gelato is denser and has less air. For the same volume of ice cream, you're getting much more product. We only use imported ingredients, unless the ingredient calls for something fresh or unique—like Durian.
3. What do you use to make your gelato?
Our gelato equipment comes from Italy. We use Italian ingredients to make our gelato, as well as fresh produce like berries from New Zealand and fresh milk.
4. Do you franchise?
We here at MokkiLato want to inspire you to get your creative juices flowing. We don’t franchise, but if you’re interested in opening up your own gelato bar or just want to make your own gelato at home, we have the resources to help you get started. Call or e-mail us to find out how.
5. My daughter is having a birthday party. Do you cater?
Yes! As of April 2009, we now offer a gelato catering service, perfect for any event or celebration! For just Php 7,500 the gelato package includes the use of our display showcase, SIX (6) gelato flavors of your choice, a MokkiLato crew member to assist in scooping and all the other knickknacks you need to enjoy our gelato. The package is good for 100-120 people and if you think you need more than that, we can tailor the package to suit your event. Visit the Gelato page to see a list of our flavors. If you want a flavor that's not on there, ask us and we might be able to come up with something or work with you to pick something else.
6. Where are your stores?
We currently have a gelato bar at the Makati Landmark Food Court (Moving to somewhere bigger and better! Stay tuned for info!) and a gelato bar that we just opened at the Valle Verde Country Club. In Iloilo City, you can find us at Nothing But Desserts at The Avenue, Smallville Complex.
7. Can I place an order?
Yes! Just place an order with us over the phone 48 hours in advance. We accept orders from half a gallon (some flavors) to a hundred gallons! You can pick it up at any of our locations or at our office in Mandaluyong.
8. Do you deliver?
We deliver to anywhere in the Metro Manila area for a flat fee of P 250.00, just don’t forget to place the order 48 hours in advance!
9. I’m diabetic/vegan, but I would really like to try your gelato. Do you have any options for me?
Sure thing! We’ve got low-calorie, sugar-free gelato as well as our vegan-friendly soya-based fruit gelatos.
10. What’s the catch? Why is your gelato cheaper than most gelaterias?
There really is no catch. We want to show that you don’t have to pay a lot in order to enjoy real gelato. Through the MokkiLato Movement, we want to spread the gelato love by spreading the word and making gelato more affordable. As a business model, we want to show future gelato bar owners that you can still make a profit while providing affordable, quality, flavor-packed gelato.
